Lochby Field Sling Review: A Minimal Sling for iPad Mini Carry
Everyday carry isn’t just about knives, flashlights, and wallets. For many of us, information is just as important. That’s why a pen, notebook, or tablet often earns a place in our daily loadout.
In this post, I’m sharing an early look at the Lochby Field Sling — a compact waxed canvas sling I picked up specifically to carry an iPad Mini without wearing a full backpack.
Why the Lochby Field Sling?
I didn’t buy the Field Sling because I needed another bag. I bought it because I wanted something small, simple, and practical. Many slings are either oversized, overly tactical, or loaded with unnecessary features. The Lochby stood out because it felt intentionally minimal.
Design and Build Quality
The Field Sling is made from waxed canvas and features a straightforward layout. It doesn’t look futuristic or tactical. Instead, it has a quiet, old-school feel that blends naturally into everyday environments.
The strap system is simple and stable, and the material choice makes sense for light daily carry.
Does It Fit an iPad Mini?
The short answer is yes — but in a very specific way. The fit is snug without being tight. The sling doesn’t collapse under the weight of the iPad, and it doesn’t feel oversized when the tablet isn’t inside.
After a few days of carry, I found it comfortably holds:
- iPad Mini
- Phone
- Wallet
- Several pens
- EDC knife
- Flashlight
- Small notebook
- Apple Pencil
- Keys and an EDC hank
Who This Sling Is For
The Lochby Field Sling isn’t perfect — and that’s okay. If you carry a lot of gear, it’s too small. If you want heavy padding or modern tech fabrics, waxed canvas may not be your thing.
But if you’re looking for a compact, understated sling that works especially well with an iPad Mini, it fills a very specific niche.
Early Verdict
This is not a final review. I plan to spend more time with the Field Sling before making a long-term judgment. That said, early impressions are positive. It’s simple, functional, and quietly effective — exactly what I look for in everyday carry gear.
