Adulting EDC: What I Carry When I’m Forced Into Real Pants

Today I had to adult.

It was god awful.

I had to wear real pants. Not jeans. Not jeans with deep pockets. Actual dress slacks. Just saying those words feels like chewing aluminum foil.

I had a work conference to attend, and that meant I could not carry my normal everyday setup the way I usually do. I had to look presentable, which is apparently something society still expects from time to time.

So I decided to turn lemons into lemonade and show exactly what I carried in my pockets, on my person, and inside my Lochby Field Sling.

The Main Bag: Lochby Field Sling

The main item I carried was the Lochby Field Sling.

This is a gorgeous waxed canvas sling bag with a high-visibility interior, and it worked really well for a day where I needed to carry useful gear while still looking somewhat presentable.

I also received a lot of compliments on it, which is always nice when a piece of gear manages to be practical and good-looking at the same time.

Vero Tide Tracker Watch

The first item on my person was the Vero Tide Tracker.

This watch is assembled in the United States, uses a Japanese-made Seiko NH38A automatic movement, and has a 41-hour power reserve.

It measures 47 mm lug to lug, and it is easily one of my favorite watches in my collection.

I do not get to wear it during normal work hours because it would get completely trashed, but when I can wear it, I absolutely love it.

Jack Wolf Gateway Barlow and Cajun Leather Works Slip

For a pocket knife, I carried the Jack Wolf Gateway Barlow in Miami CamoCarbon.

Since this was a classier kind of day, I carried it in a natural veg tan leather slip from Cajun Leather Works.

The Rotring 600 ballpoint pen is one of those items I carry almost every day.

It is practical, reliable, and feels great in hand. For a work conference, a good pen makes more sense than ever.

Keys, Thumb Drive, and Medication

I also carried my keys with a woven cord and a thumb drive.

Along with that, I had medication for anaphylaxis. Some items are not exciting, but they are extremely important. For me, that kind of gear is part of everyday carry because it serves a real purpose.

Wuben G5 Flashlight

Inside the Maxpedition organizer, I carried the Wuben G5.

This is my second Wuben G5, and I really like this colorway.

Why This Gear Matters

This was not my normal everyday carry setup, but it helped make the day better.

When I have to leave some of my normal gear behind, I feel it. I like having useful items with me. Tools, light, medical gear, notes, and a few comfort items all help me feel more prepared.

This gear is my safety blanket.

That may sound funny, but anyone who carries gear daily probably understands it. Sometimes it is not just about needing the item every single day. It is about knowing you have it if something comes up.
