Knafs YUTI First Look: New Knife Day Meets Utility Knife

Knafs sent over a little package, and that means one thing: new knife day.

Today we are taking a first look at the Knafs YUTI, a compact folding utility knife with some real pocket knife features built into it.

This is not just a basic box cutter. The YUTI has black G10 scales, a crossbar lock, ball bearings, thumb studs, an ambidextrous deep-carry pocket clip, extra hardware, extra Omega springs, and a toolless blade change once the shipping screw is loosened.

It is a utility knife, but Knafs gave it some knife-nerd flavor.

Knafs YUTI Overview

The Knafs YUTI is a compact folding utility knife designed with features you would normally expect on a more traditional pocket knife.

The version shown in this video has black G10 scales, a compact folding design, and a utility blade instead of a traditional knife blade.

What Comes in the Package?

Inside the package, there are a few fun Knafs touches.

  • Knafs YUTI utility knife
  • Knafs sticker
  • Mint
  • Extra hardware
  • Extra Omega springs

The screws also appear to already have threadlocker applied, which is a nice touch.

Black G10 Scales

The YUTI shown in the video comes with black G10 scales.

That gives it a more knife-like feel than a lot of basic utility knives, and it fits nicely with the rest of Knafs’ design language.

Size and Weight

The Knafs YUTI is small and lightweight.

  • Closed length: 3.33 inches
  • Open length: 6.14 inches
  • Weight: 2.3 ounces

This makes it a very pocketable option for anyone who wants a utility blade without carrying a full-size utility knife.

Crossbar Lock and Ball Bearings

One of the most interesting things about the YUTI is that it uses a crossbar lock and rides on ball bearings.

That gives it very smooth action and makes it feel more like a modern folding knife than a basic utility blade holder.

The action in the video was very nice right out of the box.

Thumb Studs

The YUTI also has thumb studs, giving you an easy opening method.

Again, this is one of those features that makes it feel more like a pocket knife than a traditional utility knife.

Ambidextrous Deep-Carry Pocket Clip

The pocket clip is ambidextrous and deep carry.

That means it should work for both right-handed and left-handed carry, and it sits nicely in the pocket.

The deep-carry design is one of the things that stood out immediately.

Finger Choil

Knafs refers to the front area as a finger choil.

Personally, I am not sure I want my finger that close to a utility blade, but the feature is there.

Size Comparisons

In the video, the YUTI is compared against a few other tools and knives to give a better idea of its size.

  • Milwaukee Fastback
  • Multiforce-style multitool
  • Mossy Oak Bugout-style clone

The YUTI is much smaller than a Milwaukee Fastback, which is part of what makes it appealing as a pocket-friendly utility knife.

Toolless Blade Change

Out of the box, the blade screw is tightened for shipping.

Once that screw is loosened, the blade change becomes toolless. You can finger-tighten it and continue using it without needing a tool every time.

That is a very nice feature for a utility knife.

Final Thoughts

The Knafs YUTI is a pretty awesome little utility knife.

It takes a simple concept, a replaceable utility blade, and wraps it in a compact folding design with G10 scales, a crossbar lock, ball bearings, thumb studs, a deep-carry clip, and extra hardware.

If you like utility knives but still want something that feels more like a modern EDC folder, the YUTI is definitely worth checking out.
