Wurkkos HD02 Mini Review: Small Flashlight, Big Features
Wurkkos sent the new HD02 Mini into the channel for us to take a look at, and this little flashlight packs a lot into a much more EDC-friendly package.
You may recognize the name from the full-size Wurkkos HD02. That larger version is a very powerful and capable flashlight, but it is also a hefty boy.
The HD02 Mini gives us something smaller, lighter, more pocketable, and easier to carry while still keeping a lot of the useful features that make the HD02 lineup interesting.

What Comes in the Box?
Inside the box, Wurkkos includes:
- Wurkkos HD02 Mini flashlight
- Read-me battery warning
- Extra O-rings
- USB Type-C to USB Type-C charging cable
- User manual
The read-me insert warns you to remove the paper chip from the battery before using the flashlight. Otherwise, the light will not work as intended, or at all.
The user manual is extensive, but the text is very small, so you may want to break out the reading glasses.
Build, Size, and Weight
The HD02 Mini has a hard anodized finish and is made from aerospace-grade 6061 aluminum alloy.
The version shown in the video has a great-looking color, and the overall size makes it much easier to carry than the larger HD02.
The HD02 Mini measures:
- Length: 4 inches
- Width: 1.6 inches
- Thickness: 1.1 inches
- Weight with battery: 3.95 ounces
Water and Drop Resistance
The HD02 Mini has an IPX6 water resistance rating and a 1.5 meter drop resistance rating.
That gives it a practical level of durability for everyday carry, work use, bag carry, and general outdoor use.
Pocket Clip and Hat Carry
The included pocket clip is dual-direction, which means it can be used for normal pocket carry or clipped to a hat.
That makes the HD02 Mini more versatile as a hands-free light.
For a compact EDC flashlight, having a good pocket clip and hat clip option is a big plus.
Output, Throw, and Runtime
The Wurkkos HD02 Mini has a maximum output of 1,300 lumens.
It also has a maximum intensity of 10,375 candela, a maximum throw of 204 meters, and a maximum runtime of 60 hours and 22 minutes.
Battery Compatibility
The HD02 Mini comes with a rechargeable 14500 lithium-ion battery rated at 900 mAh.
It can also accept other battery types, including NiMH and alkaline batteries.
One very important warning: only charge a rechargeable lithium-ion battery inside the flashlight. Do not try to charge alkaline or NiMH batteries inside the light.
Trying to charge the wrong battery type could cause serious problems.
USB-C Charging and Indicator
The HD02 Mini has a USB Type-C charging port hidden behind the side switch cover.
It also includes a charge indicator and charging indicator, which makes it easy to check battery status.
Tripod Mount
One of my favorite features is the 1/4-20 tripod mount.
I love that Wurkkos includes this feature on several of their flashlights. It gives you a lot more flexibility for work lighting, filming, beam shots, tabletop use, and hands-free setups.
I wish more flashlight companies would follow that idea.
Magnetic Tail
The HD02 Mini also has a magnetic tail.
That gives you another hands-free mounting option on metal surfaces, which can be useful for work, repairs, vehicle use, or emergency lighting.
Flip-Out Side Light
The HD02 Mini has a flip-out side light with a Hall switch.
When you open the side light, it turns on automatically. You can adjust the output by pressing and holding the button.
This gives the HD02 Mini another lighting mode beyond the standard front-facing flashlight functions.
Safety Mode and Main Modes
The flashlight has a side switch that exposes the USB-C charging port and controls the light.
A single press activates safety mode, where the light flashes instead of turning on normally.
Pressing and holding brings the light in on moonlight mode.
The main light options include:
- Floodlight
- Spotlight
- Red light
- Flip-out side light
The HD02 Mini also has memory mode, though the side light does not have memory mode.
Side Light Output
The side light outputs mentioned in the video include:
- Low: 12 lumens, 17 hours and 26 minutes
- High: 320 lumens, then steps down after 3 minutes to 210 lumens for an additional 1 hour and 28 minutes
The side light gets surprisingly bright for such a compact flashlight.
Spotlight Output
The spotlight outputs mentioned in the video include:
- Moonlight: 0.5 lumens, 60 hours and 22 minutes
- Low: 15 lumens, 17 hours and 17 minutes
- High: 1,300 lumens for 2 minutes, then steps down to 510 lumens for 32 minutes, then steps down to 170 lumens for an additional 24 minutes
The spotlight gives you the highest output and longest throw from the HD02 Mini.
Floodlight Output
The floodlight outputs mentioned in the video include:
- Moonlight: 0.5 lumens, 60 hours and 22 minutes
- Low: 18 lumens, 17 hours and 6 minutes
- High: 400 lumens for 30 minutes, then steps down to 220 lumens for an additional 35 minutes
The floodlight gives you a wider beam for closer work and area lighting.
Red Light Output
The red light outputs mentioned in the video include:
- Moonlight: 0.5 lumens, 42 hours and 22 minutes
- Low: 6 lumens, 21 hours and 51 minutes
- High: 50 lumens, 3 hours and 28 minutes
The red light adds more versatility for night use, low-light situations, preserving night vision, or signaling.
Outdoor Beam Shots
At the end of the video, there are outdoor beam shots.
They are not meant to be overly scientific. The plan is simple: set up a tripod, walk about 20 paces, and show the different modes and directions so you can get a practical look at what the HD02 Mini can do outside.

Final Thoughts
The Wurkkos HD02 Mini is a very capable and feature-packed little flashlight.
The full-size HD02 is powerful, but it is also large and heavy. The HD02 Mini gives you a smaller, lighter, more pocketable option while still offering spotlight, floodlight, red light, side light, USB-C charging, magnetic tail, tripod mount, hat carry, and multiple battery compatibility.
This feels like a much more EDC-friendly version of the HD02.
If you like compact flashlights with a lot of built-in utility, the HD02 Mini is definitely worth a look.
