Walmart’s New Hyper Tough Tools Are Actually Impressive
If you have not walked through the tool section at Walmart recently, it may surprise you.
There have been a lot of changes. Walmart has brought in Greenworks, the Hyper Tough section has grown, and the packaging looks much better than it used to.
Just by visual inspection, the tools also seem like they may have improved. I do not know that for a fact yet, but at first glance, the new Hyper Tough lineup looks a lot more appealing than I expected.
So I went through the tool section and picked out a handful of items that I thought could work well for EDC, pocket tool kits, vehicle kits, work carry, or general everyday utility.
Most of these items were $15 or less, which is where things get interesting.

Hyper Tough 4-in-1 Utility Knife Two-Pack
The first item is the Hyper Tough 4-in-1 multi-function utility knife two-pack.
This set includes two compact utility knives with several built-in features:
- Quick change blade system
- Built-in bottle opener
- Built-in bit driver
- Built-in ruler
- Belt clip
- Accepts standard utility blades
- Includes two blades
The handle is plastic, which makes it lighter than the older metal version. That lighter weight may actually make it easier to EDC.
The blade change felt smooth, and the bit driver had one feature I really liked: it actually captures the bit instead of letting it push all the way through.
That is a nice upgrade compared to some similar tools where you have to hold the bit in place with your finger.
The biggest question is long-term durability because of the plastic body, but for the price, this is not a bad deal.

Hyper Tough Permanent Markers
Next up are the Hyper Tough permanent markers.
The pack includes a black marker and a red marker, and the price was very inexpensive.
One thing I would like to test in the future is how long they can sit uncapped before drying out. Some competing jobsite markers advertise that specifically, so it would be interesting to see how these hold up.

Hyper Tough Stubby Screwdriver
The stubby screwdriver was another surprise.
It is labeled as a 6-in-1, but after looking at the features, it seemed more like a 7-in-1 tool. It includes two double-sided bits, along with multiple wrench openings built into the handle.
For the price, this one was very impressive.

Hyper Tough Titanium Coated Utility Blades
I also picked up a five-pack of Hyper Tough titanium coated heavy duty utility knife blades.
These are advertised as:
- Titanium coated
- Shatter resistant
- Longer cutting life
- Compatible with standard utility knives
For the price, these could be a great add-on for the utility knives if they hold up well.

Hyper Tough 6-Inch Quick Adjust Pliers
The next item is the Hyper Tough 6-inch quick adjust groove joint pliers.
Are these a Knipex Cobra competitor? Probably not directly, mostly because they are bigger. But for the money, they are still a very interesting EDC tool option.
Features include:
- CR-V steel
- Quick adjust button
- Dual material comfort grip
- Jaw opening around 1.5 inches
- Overall opening a little over 2 inches
The handles feel grippy and comfortable, the adjustment feels fairly smooth, and the pliers were able to grip a piece of paper.
They may be a little large for some EDC setups, but they still feel like a solid budget option.

Hyper Tough 7-in-1 Folding Utility Knife
The next tool is the one that feels like Hyper Tough is aiming directly at the Milwaukee Fastback crowd.
This is the Hyper Tough 7-in-1 multi-function folding utility knife.
It includes:
- Easy one-handed opening
- Quick change blade mechanism
- Integrated blade storage
- Two included blades
- Utility knife
- Bottle opener
- Wire stripper
- No. 2 Phillips screwdriver bit
- 1/4-inch slotted screwdriver bit
- 1/4-inch nut driver
- Wire pocket clip
The blade storage was nice and smooth, the locking bit driver was a great touch, and the quick change blade mechanism worked well.
The part I did not love was the bottle opener. It does not completely get in the way, but it feels like it could potentially interfere with pocket carry. I would rather they left it off.
Even with that complaint, this is a very compelling option if you want a Fastback-style tool and you are shopping at Walmart.

Hyper Tough 800 Lumen Rechargeable Slim LED Pocket Light
The biggest surprise of the video was the Hyper Tough 800 lumen rechargeable slim LED pocket light.
At first, I was not sure whether this would be a hot item or a dud. It ended up being the biggest win on the table.
Features include:
- 800 lumen turbo mode
- Area high and area low modes
- Spot high and spot low modes
- UV mode
- Red mode
- Red flashing mode
- USB-C charging
- Included charging cable
- IPX4 water resistance
- 1200 mAh lithium polymer battery
- Metal case
- Magnetic base
- Pocket clip
- Lanyard hole
- Battery indicator
The listed outputs include:
- Area high: 250 lumens
- Area low: 70 lumens
- Spot high: 330 lumens
- Spot low: 70 lumens
- Turbo: 800 lumens
The listed runtimes include:
- Area high: 5 hours
- Area low: 13 hours
- Spot high: 2 hours 30 minutes
- Spot low: 5 hours 30 minutes
The listed throw is 18 meters on area high and 45 meters on spot high.
The one thing I would have liked to see is a dual-direction pocket clip so it could be clipped to a hat. But for the price, this light is seriously impressive.
Area light, spot light, turbo, UV, red, red flashing, USB-C, magnetic tail, battery indicator, and metal body for under $15 is wild.

Final Thoughts
Overall, I am impressed with what Hyper Tough is doing here.
Not every item is perfect, and availability may vary depending on your local Walmart, but there are some surprisingly useful tools in this lineup.
The 4-in-1 utility knife two-pack is lightweight and inexpensive. The quick adjust pliers are a solid budget option. The 7-in-1 folding utility knife feels like a direct Walmart alternative to a Milwaukee Fastback. And the 800 lumen slim pocket light was the clear standout.
That flashlight genuinely surprised me.
For under $15, getting USB-C charging, turbo, UV, red light, red flash, magnetic base, pocket clip, metal body, and a battery indicator is pretty amazing.
Let me know what you think. Would you carry any of these Hyper Tough tools for EDC?
