Outask TD2 Review: The Telescopic Lantern That Saved My Bacon
Today we are taking a look at the Outask TD2 Telescopic Lantern, and this one actually saved my bacon.
Outask sent the TD2 into the channel for review, and I am very glad they did because I ended up needing it in a real-world roadside situation.
I was driving along when I got a large piece of metal in my right rear tire. I had to change the tire on the side of the road, in the dark, on an older truck where the spare tire had never been taken down.
That meant rust, lubrication, manipulation, and a lot more work than a normal tire change should have required.

What Is the Outask TD2?
The Outask TD2 is a telescopic lantern that can function as a camp light, work light, car light, roadside emergency light, flashlight, signal light, and portable area light.
It folds down into a compact body, but the pole extends up to 36.8 inches, giving you a raised light source when you need to illuminate a larger area.

Construction and Water Resistance
The TD2 has a full metal body construction.
The head and pole are rated IPX7 waterproof, while the body itself is rated IPX6 water resistant.
The body also has reflective markings, which make sense for a light that can be used in roadside or emergency situations.
Spotlight and Floodlight
The TD2 includes two main light options:
- Spotlight
- Floodlight
The spotlight gives you a more focused beam, while the floodlight gives you broader area lighting.
That combination is what makes this light useful in several different roles. It can illuminate a specific task, light up a campsite, or help during vehicle problems at night.
Hanging Loop and Possible Emergency Tip
On the back of the TD2, there is a small loop that can be used for hanging the light.
There is also a small ball-shaped feature that looks like it could be a tungsten emergency tip or window breaker. I could not find anything in the documentation confirming that, so I would not want to claim it officially, but visually, that is what it appears to resemble.
Controls and Charging
The TD2 has a control wheel that adjusts brightness and color output.
There is also a battery indicator on the body and a USB Type-C charging port.
Outask includes a USB Type-C to USB Type-C charging cable in the box.
Battery and Reverse Charging
The TD2 uses a customized 21700 x 2 lithium-ion battery.
The battery is rated at 5,000 mAh and 7.4V.
The light charges at 18W and also supports reverse charging, which means it can be used to charge other devices.
One thing to note is that reinstalling the battery compartment can be a little frustrating. It is not impossible, but it is more fiddly than I would like.
Brightness, Color Temperature, and CRI
The Outask TD2 has a maximum output of 1,500 lumens.
It also has an adjustable color temperature range from 3,000K to 6,500K and a color accuracy rating of 90 CRI.
That means you can adjust the light from warmer to cooler depending on the situation.
Rotating Head and Base
The TD2 has a very flexible lighting design.
- Head rotation: 720 degrees
- Base rotation: 360 degrees
That gives you a lot of control over where the light is pointed, especially when using it as a work light or camp light.
Brightness and Color Adjustment
To turn the light on, press and hold the power button.
Once it is on, the control wheel adjusts brightness. If you press and hold the button while turning the wheel, you can adjust the color temperature of the light.
A double tap switches to the floodlight.
Emergency and Signal Modes
The TD2 also has several colored and flashing modes.
This is the part that came in handy during my roadside tire change.
I could use the light as a warning beacon while also using the white light to see what I was doing.
The light includes flashing warning-style modes, a blinking yellow mode that appears to behave like SOS, and a solid blue mode that Outask lists for first aid situations.
Output and Runtime
In spotlight mode, using white light at 6,500K, the TD2 has the following listed outputs:
- Low: 40 lumens, 68-hour runtime
- Medium: 300 lumens, 16-hour runtime
- High: 1,100 lumens, 6-hour runtime
In floodlight mode, using white light at 6,500K, the listed outputs are:
- Low: 40 lumens, 58.5-hour runtime
- Medium: 300 lumens, 11-hour runtime
- High: 700 lumens, 7.5-hour runtime
Outask notes that in spotlight mode, with the color temperature set around 4,700K, the maximum brightness can reach up to 1,500 lumens.
Magnetic Feet
One of the coolest features is the magnetic feet.
You can extend the light, place it on a magnetic surface, and use it as a raised work light.
That is excellent for garage work, jobsite use, vehicle work, camp chores, or emergency lighting.
One thing to note: my truck has an aluminum body, so the magnets were not useful on the truck itself. On steel surfaces, though, this feature works great.
Telescoping Design
The TD2 extends out to 36.8 inches.
That turns it from a compact light into a small elevated lantern or work light.
When folded down, it packs back into a compact form that is easy to store in a vehicle, camping bin, or emergency kit.
Optional Accessories
Outask also offers optional accessories, including a carrying case and lampshade.
The lampshade is a nice option because it helps turn the TD2 into more of a camp lantern or area light.
Roadside Emergency Use
The real test for this light came when I had to change a tire on the side of the road.
This is where the TD2 made the most sense to me.
It gave me enough light to work, but it also made me more visible. That matters when you are on the side of the road at night and other drivers may not see you until the last second.
This is why I think the TD2 makes a lot of sense as a vehicle emergency light.

Final Thoughts
The Outask TD2 is one of those products that makes more sense the moment you actually need it.
On paper, it is a telescopic lantern with a spotlight, floodlight, magnetic feet, USB-C charging, reverse charging, adjustable color temperature, and a compact folding design.
In real life, it helped me change a tire safely on the side of the road in the dark.
That is what makes it stand out.
For camping, vehicle emergency gear, roadside safety, work lighting, power outages, outdoor tasks, or general preparedness, the TD2 is a very useful light to have around.
It is not perfect. The battery compartment is a little annoying to reinstall, and the magnetic feet will not help on aluminum body panels. But overall, this is a seriously useful piece of gear.
