What Comes in the Box?

The Klaken Knives Kraken comes with more than I expected from a budget folding knife.

The sheath was one of the first surprises. This may be one of the few folding knives I have seen come with a sheath where I was not immediately annoyed by it.

The sheath has the Klaken Kraken logo, a belt loop, a lanyard loop, a large hook and loop field, and elastic loops on the sides for adding a flashlight, pen, or other small gear.

First Impressions

The Kraken gets a lot right.

It has natural G10 scales, which have a jade-like look to them, a D2 blade, ceramic ball bearings, a liner lock, and a deep carry pocket clip.

The action is snappy, the centering is on point, and the overall feel is better than I expected for a knife in this price range.

Blade and Sharpness

The Kraken uses D2 blade steel and came very sharp out of the box.

It handled the paper test easily, which is always a good sign, especially for a budget knife that was shipped directly through Amazon fulfillment.

That means this knife was not pre-inspected, cherry-picked, or staged before being sent out. It came straight from the warehouse, and the edge was still excellent.

Blade Coating

The blade has a dark coating, though I do not see anything stating that it is DLC coated.

At this price point, I would assume it is painted or coated in a more budget-friendly way rather than true DLC.

That is not necessarily a problem, but it is worth keeping expectations realistic.

Carry and Pocket Clip

The Kraken includes a deep carry pocket clip and can be set up for right or left-handed tip-up carry.

The clip works fine, but it is one of the areas I would like to see improved.

The clip itself feels a little generic, almost like something used across several models rather than designed specifically for this knife. I would also prefer to see the full brand name removed from the clip and replaced with the smaller Kraken logo instead.

It is not a deal breaker. It works. But it could be better.

Suggested Improvements

For the price, the Kraken is impressive, but there are a few things I would change in a future version.

• Mill out the liners to reduce weight
• Add jimping on the spine
• Add jimping to the flipper tab
• Refine the pocket clip design
• Use the Kraken logo on the clip instead of the full brand name

None of those are deal breakers, but they would make the knife feel even more refined.

Price and Value

At the time of filming, the Klaken Knives Kraken was listed around $22.99.

It was even lower during Amazon Prime Day, but even at the regular price, this knife feels like it should cost more.

I think this could reasonably sit closer to the $32.99 range and still feel fair.
