Woodsy Leather Field Notes Cover Review: Handmade EDC Gear Done Right

Every once in a while, someone reaches out and asks if they can send something into the channel that they made by hand. For me, that is one of the highest compliments I can receive.

It means someone trusts me enough to share something they are proud of, so I can share it with you.

This Field Notes-style leather notebook cover from Woodsy Leather is one of those pieces.

Who Is Woodsy Leather?

Woodsy Leather is run by Brad, a leather craftsman based in North Carolina. You can find his work through his website and Etsy shop, where he offers a variety of handmade leather goods.

When Brad reached out and asked what he could send into the channel, I asked him to send something that best represented his work. He chose this Field Notes-style leather cover, and it is easy to see why.

What This Cover Is Made For

This notebook cover is designed to fit a standard 3.5 inch by 5.5 inch Field Notes-style notebook.

That makes it a great option for everyday carry, work notes, pocket journaling, gear lists, project ideas, or anything else you want to keep written down and close at hand.

Materials and Craftsmanship

This particular cover is made from full-grain oil-tanned leather in a pine tree green color.

The leather is thick, smells fantastic, and immediately gives the impression that Woodsy Leather is not cutting corners on material quality.

Brad also works with several other leather options, including:

  • Wickett & Craig leather
  • Horween leather
  • Bison leather
  • Badalassi Carlo Pueblo leather

This specific notebook cover has a more rugged, rough-cut style, but Woodsy Leather also offers more refined work with hand stitching, burnishing, and other finishing options.

More Than Notebook Covers

Woodsy Leather does more than Field Notes covers. His shop also includes items like:

  • Pen holders
  • Wallets
  • Leather bow ties
  • Custom Bible rebinding
  • Rebound Bibles

The Bible rebinding work is especially impressive and shows a level of skill that goes well beyond basic leather goods.

Fit and Function

Although I did not have a Field Notes notebook on hand during the video, I tested the cover with a Log + Jotter notebook, which is the same size.

The notebook fit exactly as expected, and the cover gave it a much more durable and premium feel.

For anyone who carries a pocket notebook daily, this is the kind of upgrade that makes the notebook feel more intentional and more personal.

Why This Belongs in an EDC Setup

A pocket notebook is one of those underrated everyday carry items. Phones are great, but there is still something useful about having paper available when you need to jot something down quickly.

A leather cover like this protects the notebook, gives it structure, and adds a little personality to your carry.

Final Thoughts

This Woodsy Leather Field Notes-style cover is a beautiful handmade piece of EDC gear.

It is simple, useful, rugged, and full of character. The leather feels excellent, the craftsmanship is clean, and it is the kind of item I can see myself carrying immediately.

Huge thanks to Brad at Woodsy Leather for sending this into the channel.
